This track follows on from #38, represents another experiment with microphones. The principal metallic melody was recorded very quickly, in one unrehearsed take and without much thought to microphone placement, in order to illustrate the sound of a custom made steel tongue drum that I was considering selling. The melody had something to it and so, as with #38, even though the recording was of pretty poor quality, time was spent working it into a reasonable form.

During the same period, I took delivery of an old upright piano. In order to experiment with how to record it, I tried building on top of the metallic foundations.

Those two instruments are the only sound sources : a tongue drum made from an old Butane gas bottle, tuned to an Arabic scale (Nawa Athar), and a Bechstein model III upright piano built in 1900.

I am not convinced of the validity of either argument, am of the opinion that the outcome of any given pursuit is beside the point, the point being the pursuit itself.
